New 6V6 build begun.

6v6 build under way. This is a Fargen Cab I got on ebay. The chassis is a hammond from STF. The Donner Amp was an old spegial guitar amp with an alnicol 15 inch speaker. Could not tell that the amp was worth much itself so instead of recondition I Chose Reconstruction. This build will be kind of like a Trainwreck Express with a 5y3GT Recto. And on the back of the amp I am installing an Input that goes thru the second half of V2 then directly into the amp to Use with a preamp pedal.

Here are some more pics of the build. The Filter cap section and Power amp section installed. Wired in the half a 12ax7 to the input and control on the back so that this amp is funtional before the preamp section is built and installed. I am considering ordering a custom face plate before drilling for the pots , input and light on the front. I don't want to fool anyone into thinking this is a Real Fargen amp. However I like the simple look of the blackbird faceplate so I may kinda copy it.

I have played it for several hours now. I love it. It has less volume than I thought it would and brakes up a little sooner, but it realy sounds good!
And, I have studied very closly and I am sure I can run 6L6GT s in this amp tool. It is Cathod Biased and I have found examples of fender 6l6 amp running the same volatges and simalar Bias resitors. That should give it a little head room when I want it.

Played it with a Vtwin pedal too. Works very well and sound great at low volumes.

The amp chassis installed from the back. Nothing to see on the front yet. Going to spend a few days designing the faceplate and finalizing the preamp and controls. In the back ground you can see my 18 watt TMB build from a couple of years ago. It Rocks too.

Yes I do. I think it sounds alot like a vintage 30. I have one in both of my amps.

BTW I orderd the face plate today. I will work on the preamp circuit and post pics of that for anyone who wants to see them. I have played this amp alot the last couple of days and it realy sounds pretty good. I have used a boogie v twin with it too. Very cool.

Looks fine, but I would add 1K 5W sandbox screen resistors on the 6V6s. It might save their lives one day.

Also, there are better PPIMV designs than the one you're using. There is a long thread here on one that uses a 250K dual pot and a pair of 2M2 resistors in parallel, to replace the 220K gridleaks. It also takes the bias voltage thru it, but safely. Its main claim to fame is it works very well at low volumes, which the basic crosscut doesn't.

Thats cool. I actualy did use a 100k slope. I still haven't got the faceplate yet so the pramp is in the amp but not hooked up to the pots and input yet. I had considered moving the PI plate supplie to the 305 place on the amp but hadn't tryed it yet. The HT power schem is taken from the amp I got the Iron from. So I thought that it would be safe to use those values.

And after the coupling cap on the "clean" chanel I did use a 1M resitor and a 100k bleed to ground before the volume pot. The amp was crazy hot with out them. The volume got out of hand just bearly off of the stop.
This made the "clean" channel cleaner but not as loud. Do you think that was a good idea?

It sound pretty good just the clean channel going right now.

The design is very simple. Just a littlle time to get it right. The software you use to design is pretty cool. The Results are Awsome. The pics don't realy nail how good it looks. It looks very highend. Took a little more than 2 weeks to get it.

The price is a little high. Almost 50 bucks shipped. But if you have a realy nice cab you can't just use a Sharpie to lable it.

This is a 2mm thick piece of Aluminum and the letters are engraved in the face then painted. Very sharp

Right on....that looks really nice! Do they have a number of different fonts to choose from? Would you use them again?
