Hello all,
I am making great progress on my 5E3. I bought the kit from Weber, but cut and built my own turret board. It's a slightly modified version of Hoffman's layout for the 5E3. I'm going to post about that in due time.
I also upgraded the capacitors, tubes, potentiometers, and output transformer from the stuff Weber includes in their kit.
I am soldering in my final resistors, and I have noticed a discrepancy in the wattage specifications between what Weber includes, and what Hoffman suggests. I will point this out to you, and hopefully you will give me your 2 cents.
Weber
250ohm 5W 6V6 cathode bias resistor
Hoffman
250ohm 10W 6V6 cathode bias resistor
Weber
5k 2W power supply resistor
Hoffman
5k 5W power supply resistor
Weber
22k 2W power supply resistor
Hoffman
22k 3W power supply resistor
Also, Hoffman suggests using the 470ohm 3W screen grid resistor.
I plan to use a screen grid, but I only have a 470ohm 2W resistor available.
If I had all of the Hoffman spec'ed parts I would just put them in and be done with it. However, Weber supplied me with the necessary resistors, and I would need to spend money to upgrade to the Hoffman spec'd resistors.
What wattage rating have you used in these positions?
Many thanks in advance,
Chuck

Re: Wattage rating for 5E3 resistors: Hoffman vs. Weber values
The Weber values should be fine.
If you want to make it capable of supporting 6L6 (rather than 6V6) then the Hoffman spec may be necessary.

My brother has steadily gigged a Weber 5e3 I built him 4 years ago or so and hasn't blown it up yet (only problem it had was when a rather overzealous stage crew member tripped over the cord and pulled the amp over, breaking a tube. The amp still played and sounded good, by the way). I'd venture to say those resistors are probably okay.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll keep with the weber spec'd stuff for now.
