hot rod deville power reduction
1 thing i know i would like to do is reduce the power of the deville. i still want full power when needed but for the most part its just to much for a rehearsal situation. i would like to use both amps (deville/deluxe) in stereo at rehearsal. installing some kinda 30w/60w switch would be nice. any advice would be appreciated.
Re: hot rod deville power reduction
Do you want to run the Deville clean? Or are you trying to get more distortion out of it at lower decibel levels?
If you're just running clean, and the issue is that the Volume control does not allow much precision adjustment at low levels, perhaps you just need to replace the Volume pot. This is a common complaint with the HRD, for example, that it goes from 1 to 100 within the first few degrees of travel.
If you're actually trying to get more distortion at lower levels, then you need an attenuator, variac, master volume, power scaling, or other solution.

Re: hot rod deville power reduction
truly i just find the deville unusable in rehearsal. i play in a country outfit so distortion is not need to often. if i bring the deville to rehearsal my singer is asking to turn down when its on 2. granted the rehearsal space is pretty small.
Re: hot rod deville power reduction
I wouldn't go with an attenuator on an HRD.
I explain me better: I won't play an HRD crancked for an entyre concert.
Have you tried to play with the PI's tail resistor of poweramp's NFB?

Then just replace the Volume pot. Re: hot rod deville power reduction
I just recently replaced the master volume pot on a Deluxe from linear to audio works well.
Re: hot rod deville power reduction
I've had good luck using a volume pot in the loop.
