Question #1
I'm trying to wire up the AC power of the amp. My thought was to put the Mains fuse and the on/off switch on the hot side (120VAC). I've seen some schematics of amps that put the fuse on the neutral side but my thought is that if there is a problem and the fuse blows, wouldn't it be best practice to cut the hot side?
Question #2
I'm building an amp that uses an AC IEC socket like the following:

but I'm having problems understanding which is the hot and which is the neutral.
A standard 120V outlet looks like this:

I verified with my multimeter that my house is wired correctly (i.e. the neutral and hot are correct). I plugged a power cord that goes into the AC IEC plug and again checked it with a multimeter. It appears that if you look at the female end of the cord similar to how would view the 120V outlet, the hot and neutral are reversed (i.e. the neutral is on the left and the hot is on the right). This confuses me as to why they would be reversed. I looked at the end of the cord and it is marked with L (I assume for Live) on the right and N on the left.
Can somebody help me understand this?
Thanks,
Omar
