Converting a Proluxe to Cathode Bias

Post by Orwells Ghost »

Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum and hoping someone here could offer me some pointers. I've got a Weber Proluxe (5e3 with fixed bias and 6L6's for 40-watts) with some big Mercury Magnetics iron. It's a bit to stiff and powerful for my liking, so I'd like to convert it to cathode bias, bringing it a bit closer to the original 5e3 spec. I'm hoping for a spongier feel and a bit less headroom. Can some of you knowledgable folks instruct me on how best to do this? Secondary question; once this is converted to cathode bias, should I want to run 6V6's would any further modifications be required? What about KT66's? Many Thanks in advance!

See this

Transformer secondary has to be different to run 6V6's, can do it if you have the right secondary taps.
