6v6 tubes
Got a seler in the uk with what aparly are mil spec 6v6gt tubes, Langrex, http://www.langrex.co.uk/common-valves.html
If someone could take a look and give me a opinion before i pull the trigger and get some i would be greatfull, its my understanding that modern 6v6 are closer to 6l6 than NOS 6v6 so if these are decent then it may be worth a try

Re: 6v6 tubes
The link doesn't seem to open to the valves you asked about. IME, mil. spec 6V6s can be very nice indeed. In modern versions, the JJ 6V6s are rather more like 6L6s (not necessarily bad, tho). Don't know about Russian or Chinese.
Re: 6v6 tubes
The Russian 6P6S (6n6C) is a beam tetrode with the same design parameters and pin-out as a 6V6GT. They're a perfectly adequate substitute, but I wouldn't run them at the high (i.e.: above 400) voltages you have in a typical BF or SF princeton or deluxe. Keep them for your champ or 5E3 (at around 360V)

Re: 6v6 tubes
Sorry about that, the tubes in question are about halfway down the page, not sure how much voltage i can hit NOS 6v6 with but i'm looking at 320 ish on the plates, i know modern stuff can take it but is it asking a bit to much for NOSFirestorm wrote:The link doesn't seem to open to the valves you asked about. Re: 6v6 tubes
320V is fine on the plates for a 6V6, whether its NOS or current production

Re: 6v6 tubes
320 vdc is just fine with any 6V6gxx. They can actually take much more (unsustained) as they were used for linear deflection in old tvs.
Re: 6v6 tubes
Pass on the Russian stuff and get the American made 6v6gty United. I cannot see the manufacturers code but they could be RCA , if so there is none better.

Billy's right, I have a pair of good-used brown base 6V6GTY I tried in one of my Fenders and they are the best sounding tubes I've heard.billyz wrote:Pass on the Russian stuff and get the American made 6v6gty United. Re: 6v6 tubes
+2 Best I ever heard were RCA-manufactured mil. spec with somebody else's name on them. Hytron maybe, but they were RCA for sure. RCA 6L6s are pretty much gone, but the 6V6s are still out there. Grab'em while you can.rdjones wrote:Billy's right, I have a pair of good-used brown base 6V6GTY I tried in one of my Fenders and they are the best sounding tubes I've heard.billyz wrote:Pass on the Russian stuff and get the American made 6v6gty United. +3 RCA tubes were used in TV set retrace circuits, and were rugged, besides being one of the sweetest 6V6 tubes to grace the face of the earth.Firestorm wrote:+2 Best I ever heard were RCA-manufactured mil. spec with somebody else's name on them.
