Fender 6G2 Tremolo Speed
I just built a Brown Princeton of sorts (it is in a Blues Junior style cabinet), and would like to mod the trem circuit. Right now, the speed control has to be at zero for my taste. It has more fast range than I need, and not enough slow range. How would I mod the trem to shift the range to the slower end?
Re: Fender 6G2 Tremolo Speed
So I found a recommendation online to increase the values of the two feedback caps (.01 and .02 when stock) perhaps as to much as .047. Is there any reason I can't increase them even more? For example, can I replace the .02 with a .1? I clipped a .1 into the circuit and it sounded right to me from a speed perspective, but not sure if that will cause issues later.

Hey Steve,
Try Randall's white paper on trem circuits. His stuff is always a great read and you will learn what and why to change components for your needs.

Try increasing just one of the caps for a start. (You could tack a .01uF in parallel with one of the other caps to see)

Re: Fender 6G2 Tremolo Speed
There should be 3 caps in the chain. I would increase one at a time until you get where you want to be. .02 .02 .02 would probably be adequate.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
Re: Fender 6G2 Tremolo Speed
This circuit is a little different. It only has two caps, and only the one resisitor/pot chain to ground. But paralleling the caps is certainly the right thing to do. My question is whether there is a limit to how much capacitance I can use.
Re: Fender 6G2 Tremolo Speed
there will be a point where if you increase the capacitance it'll give up altogether.
But the secret to achieving your mojo is to suck it and see.

Re: Fender 6G2 Tremolo Speed
I ended up paralleling a .1uF cap with the existing .02uF cap. Seems stable, and the speed got to be right where I wanted it.
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

The 6G2 is a nice circuit. Maybe you'll give us a clip or two?
