18 Watt TMB with Tremelo
Hi, I have been asked by a friend to build him an amp. He played and liked an 18 Watt Superlite TMB I built for someone else. He liked it but asked if I could add tremelo. It would be a single input amp with footswitchable trem.
Just wondering if anyone here has built this combination.

I am the Marshall guy stop Marshalling!

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Hey Mark. What layout/schematic did you use and how does it sound?

I got this one, Mark...
Mark doesn't use schematics. Mark doesn't use layouts. Mark works too fast, and if he slowed hisself down with instructions, plans, or layouts of any type, Mark wouldn't be able to build Dumbles before breakfast most days.
It sounds excellent. Mark never makes a bad amp, not even the second or third one of the day. All great.
lol
I'm only about half joking.

I'll let Richie Hall comment on his 18w schematic from 18watt.com website that would be the schematic I would follow.
I deviated and wish I hadn't because you need to make darn sure to use shielded wiring and lead dress or the tremolo will tick.
I like both channels of this amp and plenty of power on tap.

Re: 18 Watt TMB with Tremelo
Hey Mark, the 18 trem has baffled and made some of the most experienced amp builders wonder what the heck was going on. It is a nice trem when working like it should.
As for the TMB in an 18 there are quite a few different ones. Mostly marshall tweaks in the tone section. Like picking what someone likes using, 33k or 39k or 47k resistor-> 250pf .022 and .01 for the tone caps. Helps make the bass control work or have a better range. Or maybe use 250pf 270 to 330 to 470pf treble cap
This would be on the CF type TMB circut. Again this is just tweaking to fine tune to what someone may like. Or to fine tune to a guitar or pickup they use.
So just look at most of them as somewhat standard marshall tweaks you can find everywhere. Alot depends on what your after.
Also their are other TMB type amps that are plate driven tone sections.
Which are also nice. Things to remember are if your using a TMB that uses extra gain stage, it might effect how the trem may sound. The more standard marshall 18 is not as gainy as the TMB.
You might look at brown Notes dirty 18, and move in a trem into that design.
Maybe look at 6g3 trem section. thehttp://www.thevintagesound.com/ffg/schem/deluxe_6g3_layout.gif
I'm sure their are many other ways to put trem into the amp. Or just use the many trem pedals that are out nowdays.

Thanks Mark. Those files are exactly what I'm looking for. I'm being held up by the fact that Amp Maker are closed for orders while they sort out their new business premises. Their UK made Danbury trannies are the best 18 watt set I've tried. They have both 120 and 240v primaries so u guys in the US can check them out too.

The trem from the Matchless Hurricane uses only half of one 12AX7 and it works on the 18 Watt power amp just fine (it's a power tube wiggler circuit).
