Variac - What to look for?

Is this variac suitable for amp building and speaker break in? If not any suggestions?

At 575VA (115V x 5A) its okay for powering up and testing 1 typical tube amp at a time. (I wouldn't use it for a permanent attenuator. You really need something like 1,000VA minimum for that.)
