6G6B filter capacitor assembly

Post by LarryLarry »

Ok, first - yes I am cheap. 2nd - I love MacGyver. So I'm using perf board mounted to an upside down oversized light switch cover. I figure it will all be under a cap can cover and I'm using a recycled Fender Sidekick 35 Bass chassis so I'm not going for physical authenticity here.

Can someone take a quick look at this assy and let me know if it looks correct?

Looks right to me. I've started on mine as well, for the first caps I'm using two 80uf in series with 220K bleeders and I'm going to ground the screen cap away from the pre amp caps.

You will have a better chance of hum elimination if you keep each filter cap ground return with the ground returns of those parts of the circuit supplied by that filter cap (rather than mixing them up).

Wouldn't you just do the ground like this then?

I've split mine up; first two caps grounded at the PT center tap, screens grounded at the artifical filament CT at the first power tube and the preamps caps grounded at the input.

See this article for a lengthy explanation of ground return currents
