I have a Gibson Goldtone GA-30 head (4x el84, class a, channel switching etc) - reverb not working. Thought I would take a crack at fixing it but am green when it comes to amp repair - but since I've now built a few amps, I thought it might be simple enough to at least poke around and see what I can do before I give up take it in.
The PCB and all the switching intimidate me a bit I must say
Took it out of the cab yesterday and a quick look does not show anything super obvious like a bad cable to the pan but from there I was not sure where to start
Schem is here http://www.gibson.com/Files/schematics/ ... 20Head.pdf
If you amp repair guys were diagnosing a reverb issue what would be your initial steps?
I would assume the 3 most obvious problems would be dead tube, wiring issue, or dead reverb pan.
I don't have a ecc81 tube or spare reverb pan on hand unfortunately though the tube is certainly easy enough to get.
Anyway, any suggestions on a few simple diagnostic things to try?
thanks!

Re: Help with reverb repair
Get an adapter and hook up a small 8ohm speaker to the reverb output of the amp. You should hear the input signal coming out of of that with the amp on. Is easier to do this with the main speaker disconnected and a dummy load installed
Take an iPod or something and run it into the reverb input. You should hear that signal come in and be able to adjust it with the reverb blend knob
If both those work, you are in good shape - the problems are external to the amp (tank, or cables, or both)
If one or the other does not work, you've got some sleuthing to do
