Ceriatone Prinzetone Tranny Recommendations

Post by milkyBK370 »

Hi folks. I decided that my next build should be Ceriatone's Prinzetone. I really like the sound of it (based on some clips I've seen/heard) and the general consensus is it's a great little amp. Like my previous build I'll just be getting the chassis from Ceriatone. The rest I can source elsewhere. I have a bill of materials almost complete but need some help choosing a decent PT.

I notice that Ceriatone use their 5E3 OT in the Prinzetone as well. I have used Hammond trannies in the past and have been pleased with the results there. Still, I'm open to any suggestions you might have.

Here's a link to the Ceriatone product page..

And the layout I'll be using...

I'm particularly interested in trannies that are readily available in the UK.

Hope you're all well.

The Princeton uses a 8000ohm primary while most 5E3s use a 6600ohm

The Hammond 5E3 replacement is the 1750H (1760 if you want multiple output impedance taps)
Or you can get the 1750/1760E if you want a "true" Princeton 8000ohm primary.

I know some manufacturers make OTs with a 6600 and a 8800 primary tap. Might be fun for experimenting, though I'd stick with a "clone" of the original OT like the Hammonds if it were me.
Amplifiers built:
Marshall 2204 head with some mods
Low-power 2204 (cathode biased 6V6s)
Single-knob dual-6K6GT amps using a Wattkins uPCB
AC30 clone with Plexified preamp section
AX84 Firefly
