I've got a 5f4 Super power and output tranny.

Post by pinkphiloyd »

They've just been sitting around forever. I wanna build something as a gift for a friend and figured I'd use them. Don't wanna build a super, though, he's a clean tone guy and only very rarely uses a boost or OD for a little grit. Anybody got any good suggestions?

What are the specs for the PT, or a link to the datasheet?

On the 5F4 schematic the PT delivered 415V B+ through a 5U4G to 2x 6L6 in p-p. Lots of posibilities. The OT is listed as 45216, which is well thought of I believe. Two speakers are shown wired in parallel, so it likely has a single 4-ohm output.

Indeed. And I'll undoubtedly overlook something awesome, so I thought I'd ask.

Specs.

So is the primary of that Mojo OT 12k a-a? It is if each half is really 3k...

I'm not seriously suggesting that it is, more like whomever made the drawing doesn't know how transformers work! I think they are trying to say it's a 6k primary.

If he's a clean guy, not sure why he wouldn't love a Blackface Super. That iron would also work for a JTM45. You could also do a Dumble 50 watt.

And I'm not seriously suggesting this, but an Ampeg VT40 is a wonderful amp and could also be built from that set.

What was the objection to the 5F4 ?
You'd still want to operate into the correct load which implies 2x12" or 2x10".
Were it me, I'd be considering something in the Blond/Brown range.
Reverb or tremolo, i.e. "Harmonic Vibrato", of interest ?
