7 pin pentode preamp

Post by gary sanders »

This is just for fun to see what happens.Anyone ever built something with a 6AU6 or similar? I have some sockets and tubes and thought this would be a good project in between a real amp.(Maybe put a 6V6 PP on the other end,just got a OPT for a buck something from Ebay)

I used a 6AU6 in a Vox-like thing. I didn't care for it. I have a small pile of them, maybe 6 or 7, and they were either noisy or flat sounding. They were all used tubes that came in a lot I bought that had other tubes I wanted, so, maybe all bets are off and it was just bad luck. It's the only amp I have built that I didn't care for out of about a dozen.

I didn't care for the 6AU6 either. The one thing I liked about it in the amp I built (was two cascaded 6AU6's) was that it can be setup to have a lot of bloom. A large plate and screen resistor will help incur this effect.

Matchless Clubman uses a (paralleled) 12ax7 double triode as V1 and a 6SH7 pentode as V2

6SH7 = 6AU6 ( see here http://www.el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=11691.0 )

I have no idea? However, I used a dual pentode approach on this amp.
The pin out is the same as 6AU6. I also tried some Tung-Sol 6AU6 in that position and liked those also.
