RESTORING ORANGE

Post by jujudubluz »

Hey guys,

i'm replacing all the electrolytics on my old Orange OR120M and can't find a 32µF@450v. Sprague or CDE only come in 30 or 40µF

is it safe to replace it with a 30µF or 40µF? How will it affect the tone?

Let me know.

Both will probably be fine, but just to be "correct" take the 30uF, unless it's crazy expensive compared to the 40uF kind.

Normally caps go from -20% /+50%, so a 40uF can be 32uF, a 30uF can be 45uF, etc.

F&T make a 32uf but as said both 30uf and 40uf will work just fine. keep in mind the capacitors are not exactly on spec they have a plus or minus of 10-20% depending on brand.

Most important is making sure the cap fits in the original spot.

Best of luck the Vintage Oranges are great amps! :D

Both www.Triodestore.com and www.tubesandmore.com have 33uf/450 axial caps you can use.

For can caps I recently used 32/32-500v caps in my Retro 50 clone.

Did one myself recently...needed a lot more work though..
I installed the 'Master' volume as in the OD version but with the 1972 PI.
I used JJ Electronics 250uF 500v caps and fitted 220K 2 Watt bleeders.
Amp sounds great. Look here [http://forum.orangeamps.com/viewtopic.p ... &view=next]

Got them from RS Components...but they are not exactly the same size as the originals....remember I have a custom faceplate.

Sorry, should have also said that I used the F&T caps on the PCB. Got them from Tube Town.
