63 reverb unit built in ?
How can one be built into a amp like the virbo king has. I'm working on all different projects then got asked the question. Can a reverb unit be built into a amp such as a stingray or ac30 style amp. I would think u can built the amp and accommodate the chassis to have Ur standard el84s and the Ur 6k6 for the reverb and everything. So would u just run it from the input jack thru the reverb unit layout then to v1 on the amp? Does that make sense
Re: 63 reverb unit built in ?
You can run it on the front end or you can run it in the FX loop infront of the phase inverter.
no reason you can't build it into the amp as long as the PT can handle the extra Filament current the additional tubes will draw. You also will need to make sure you can tap on to the currect B+ voltage.
other wise it's just a space issue.

Ok thanks.

Have you looked at Heisthl's reverb addon he recent posted or rjguitar's reverb addon or all the posts on Rocket Reverb?

that's essentially what the bruno underground 30 does----it just wedges this circuit in on the front end. uses a el84 to drive the tank instead of a 6k6/6v6 to save space. you could even save more space by driving the tank with a 6aq5 instead. rhpaisley_tele wrote:How can one be built into a amp like the virbo king has. A stand-alone reverb circuit works best in front of a guitar amp. Why? - because of the gain structure of the reverb unit. The CF/bypass stage for the dry signal is at unity gain (of a geetar level signal). When its mixed with the wet signal from the single reverb recovery triode, you have a good mix of different gain levels to plug into the guitar amp.
But it you try plugging it in an FX loop, it wont give you much reverb, because the dry signal is now much stronger and you still only have 1 triode from the reverb recovery side for the wet signal. You probably won't hear much (if any) of the wet signal at all. (How do I know this? - I've tried it)
The vibroking puts the 'stand-alone' reverb circuit in the front of the rest of the amps circuit because of this. JM2CW

Why does a reverb unit sound different than a amp with reverb built in
Re: 63 reverb unit built in ?
Because your whole amp, right from the first stage to the last stage, is amplifying the reverb signal from the reverb unit in front. Hence you get a different siganl quality hitting your amps V1 stage, and it goes from there.paisley_tele wrote:Why does a reverb unit sound different than a amp with reverb built in
Whereas in a BF reverb amp, for example, the guitar only (and whatever pedals you have plugged in) are being amplified in the first stage or two (all of which affects the tonal quality of the signal), and then the signal to drive the reverb is taken after that, then recovered after the tone stack.

Ok. I like the verb. In the two rock custom reverb sig for normal use. But when I need that surf type sound not many pedals match up to the 63 reverb unit. If I would build the reverb unit in my two rock clone I would need two tanks or could I get away with one. See I was thinking about having 1 input and use a relay to either send the guitar signal to the reverb unit or send it to v1 and just use the verb from the two rock. This way im not messing with knobs and all. But I I think two tanks would be needed

I built an amp based on the Blackface Fender Reverb circuit but instead of using a 12AT7 for the reverb driver I'm using a 6k6 pentode like the old Fender stand-alone reverb units used. (and the stand-alone O.T.)
The only other variance from the Blackface circuit is I put a 1meg volume control at the reverb input which acts as a dwell control.
I really like the lush reverb sound I'm getting but there is a slight hum that I can't seem to get rid of. Not too noticeable when playing just annoying. Layout is going to be critical for this kind of hybrid experimentation....
