I live in the boonies a hundred miles away from any amp tech so I need to first find out if I can get any help here. So if anyone could impart any info my way it would be much appreciated.
I went out to my practice room tonight and fired up my '66 Deluxe Reverb. I haven't used it in quite a while due to my other gigging amps useage.
The first thing I heard was a very slight faint, in the background, "tick tick tick" ticking sound I don't remember from before.
The Channel 2 reverb channel sounds clean but the volume and other knobs don't seem to work at all. I can plug my Strat in and everything sounds normal and reacts to my guitars controls but nothing on the channel pannel works. I can even turn the volume all the way down on the amp and I can still hear my guitar but at the aforementioned about number 2 volume level. Neither the reverb or the vibrato work either, Unplugged the R/V foot switch and still no difference. Swapped the ""Input-Output" cables of the reverb channel on the back just in case they had been screwed with, and still no difference.
You'd think that there would nothing coming from that channel if something was bad (preamp output tranny, tube, etc.).
It really just baffles me how I can plug into channel 2 and get a clean sound that would normally be about just a little under number two on the volume knob sound level wise, while none of the V, TBRV knobs work or have an effect in any way.
Channel one seems to work just fine (although I thought it was doing the same thing for a bit at first)
Any ideas where to look for the problem? I'm baffled.
If nothing worked on channel 2 then I could at least start looking for broken wires, bad tubes, or tranny problems ect., trying to figure it out.
Thanks for any help anybody here can throw my way.. Like I said before, I'm a long ways from any sort of tech.

Do the controls work when you plug in to the non-reverb channel?

I would start by checking the ground connections. Fenders have a lot of mechanical grounds . Loosen every control and jack on the front panel, apply some Deoxit and retighten. Then check the solder connections to ground . There is a brass ground plane on the front panel section. Sometime I solder that to the chassis, you will need a big 80W iron with a large flat chisel tip to get enough heat to solder it to the chassis. And Check your volume pot too. I had one go wonky on me and it would not shut completely off.
Re: Tech Info Needed for Late 1966 Deluxe Reverb
Assuming the reverb channel is still wired stock, it may be dirt on the volume pot wiper. The whole signal for the channel goes through that wiper except for a tiny bit that goes through the 47pF cap. The signal through that cap will be low in volume and very clean since it has no mids or bass. Tone controls also won't work since the 47pf sets the pass frequency above what those can affect. Reverb wouldn't work much either since the signal will be too small to drive the tank. The tick, tck, tick is probably the trem working, but the signal may be too small to hear the effect.
Get some Cailube and give all the pots a good cleaning. A local electronics store like Radio Shack may have something similar. Do not use contact cleaner; do not use WD40.
I'm assuming you know how to do this safely. Ask if not.
