Ax84 blues preamp

Post by jon »

Been looking at this for a while. Does anyone know anything about it? I was thinking about mating it to a pair of 6973's with a long tail pair, or a pair of 6bm8s with a long tail pair.

I've never built the Blues preamp, but the circuit has some interesting twists - the design, IIRC, came mostly from Iain and Zoe, a really nice couple from North Wales, who have many years of experience designing, building and repairing valve amps, and like to try unusual tubes and circuits.

As with all AX84 projects, I'm sure there are lots of discussion threads about the design features of this preamp, and they usually have sound clips to give you an idea of the tone.

I'd say go for it- if you don't like it, it's easy enough to re-configure a 2-tube preamp into many other variations.

I am getting a chassis ready for the Blues preamp with a 6v6 single ended power amp. Might even get it wired up this weekend.
