I'm restoring a Blackface Twin Reverb, no speakers. Anyone have any recommendations, and why?
Thanks.

I take it you aren't planning to restore it with vintage C12Ns. In that case, it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Twins don't really break up until they have driven you out of the room so you have to decide if you want the speakers to break up early or stay clean like the amp itself.
I have Italian C12Ns in my '65 Twin and think they sound great (one of the two ceramic Italian Jensens I really like). Very full with late breakup. Some people find them a little too bright. I've also used the Eminence Commonwealth in higher-powered Fenders. Almost no breakup (it's a 225W speaker!), great for jazz. Reminds me a bit of JBLs. Some people think the Eminence Legend 125 sounds just like old C12Ns. The Weber 12F150 series gives you a lot of choices: some clean, some dirty. Since you have two speakers to work with, there's also no reason not to pick two different, but complimentary ones.
I haven't even touched on Celestions, Scumbacks or any of the myriad of other choices. I'm sure other folks here have an opinion, but it would help to know what kind of sound you're looking for.

+1 on the vintage C12Ns. If you want to play bluesy rock stuff, that would be the speaker of choice and is what I have in my twin. If you want super-clean (and have a strong back) then go with the JBL D-120Fs. They are pricey and heavy, but very clean and chimey. Great for country, jazz, surf or rockabilly.

The obvious aswer is vintage C12Ns.
For really clean (and heavy) either JBL D120s or EVM12Ls.

JBLs are too bright too! I'd take an EV over the metal dust cap JBLs any day.

buy a used 2x12 fender ext cab and harvest the speakers. cheaper then buying the speakers aftermarket, they are probably already broken in so you don't have the harsh high end and they are OEM fender = traditional tone.

That is the best idea, ever!
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

you can pick up a '65/'66 black face era 2x12 cab for under $325 in perfect working order. way less if the cab is ugly.
An empty cab with logo sells for $100-$150

if you wanted the 70's silver dustcover - JBL D12 they run $350-$400 each. but I hardly ever see a matched pair sold together outside of an amp. The advantage of buying a 2x12 cab the speakers should be broken in the same.
