I've got a Traynor TS-50. It's marginally functional... some scratchy pots, leaky caps and whatnot.
Sounds as good (ahem... cough, cough...) as you'd expect a 30 year old SS amp to sound.
What is salvageable? Any build suggestions?
Thanks,
Rob

Chassis, knobs, replace the CB with a fuse holder, switch, AC cord, jacks, maybe the reverb tank
What are the dimensions of the chassis? What size speaker is in the cab? This could be the beginning of a great Grab-N-Go type combo amp. I gut a lot of SS combos and build tube amps in them. What kind of amp do you want or need?

go to ebay - musical instruments - guitars - amplifiers - search "project" or "Mesa PCB" a russian company is selling a tested Mesa Boogie Mark 2 C+ PCB set. you could gut this amp and make a mesa.
- or -
Fix it and sell it and use that money for another amp you want.

I was considering a one channel, clean- only, ef86, quad el84 combo... Pre- Top-Boost AC30.
Very impressive. That PCB sparked my interest. Is it anyone from the board?selloutrr wrote:go to ebay - musical instruments - guitars - amplifiers - search "project" or "Mesa PCB" a russian company is selling a tested Mesa Boogie Mark 2 C+ PCB set. you could gut this amp and make a mesa.

Re: Traynor TS-50. Any ideas?
You only gave one dimension of the chassis and did not mention the speaker. It would be easy enough if you have the room to build a Rocket in there. EF86 tubes can be microphonic but if you insist there are circuits which incorporate that tube. There are also other octals which are more reliable which could go up front; 6SJ7, comes to mind. 6U8, 6GH8A.
Are you comfortable building point to point or eyelet and turret board assembly? Personally I would ditch the reverb but many guys insist on having it so it could be retained too.

I don't believe they are a TAG member.
