Tube Hifi saved from trash can
My friend saved me an old tube hifi amp. The preamp section is a seperate box that had one Mullard EF86 tube in it. The power section has 5 noval sockets. I haven't unsoldered the transformer covers yet to see what kind of trafos they hide.
I like the looks of the amp and was planning to build some kind of guitar amp from it if the trannies are up to that.
Anyone ever saw one or know anything about the amp ? There seems to be nothing to reveal what brand the amp is. These link shows something close to the one I have:

Ok, found this: http://www.vintageradio.me.uk/amplifier/mullard510.htm

Wanna sell 'em? Before you dismember them, that is.
Re: Tube Hifi saved from trash can
Nice rescue!!
That's very cool! My guess is that it would make a great sounding guitar amp. Just don't lose that cable!

Sorry, I'm going to build a guitar amp from it. Maybe AC-15 with reverb... Any suggestions ?dynaman wrote:Wanna sell 'em? Before you dismember them, that is.

You think so, cool ! Strange thing, I've built pedals and amps for 5 years now and just when I'm little short of cash (cannot buy amp parts) this jumps inKellyBass wrote:Nice rescue!!

Re: Tube Hifi saved from trash can
Must be good Kharma!
Isn't there a special cable connecting the preamp box to the power amp box?...or was that in some of those other mullard pictures?...or am I just trippin?

As a pair, your pieces might be worth a bit to someone looking to make a stereo setup.
Regardless, if your amp resembles the links, then the PT looks suspiciously like a Radiospares, commonly found in the earliest Marshalls, like JTM45 and 1974. You'd be a lucky feller if both trannys were RS units. I'd cash in on them.

I have to check inside of the covers tomorrow.
KellyBass, the wires do come trough rubber rings from the tone/volume box. No connectors in there.

the transformers mounted on the Mullard Amplifiers are old Parmeko stuff. You would see it by removing the OT´s. The sign would be on the turrets bords of the OT.
The transformer of the ebay auction isn´t a RS one. This was made by Drayton Transformers Ltd.
Kind regards
Ingo
Re: Tube Hifi saved from trash can
Ahh, didn't know Parmeko made units like these. I've only seen their potted trannys. And I've never heard of Drayton. Guess I stand corrected on both counts and thanks for joining to share this info.Ingo_G wrote:Hellodynaman wrote:As a pair, your pieces might be worth a bit to someone looking to make a stereo setup.

Re: Tube Hifi saved from trash can
Man, why can't I ever find anything like that.
I would encourage you to restore them to their Hi Fi glory.
Pickup a turntable somewhere and play some vinyl.
You can make a guitar amp out of a lot of things but old Hi Fi tube amps are a dying breed.
