Vibrolux Project

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the amp garage.. I'm wanting to build a Vibrolux as a project amp with my dad... I have a complete parts list, schematic, and layout from Weber for a 6A20HP, which is an AB763 circuit I believe.. Anyways, I was wondering about getting a chassis for this project.. I'd thought about just getting a chassis from Weber, but then realized that the layout said the chassis would have to be modified for bigger iron..

Do you want a combo amp or an amp head?

Combo's are handy for grab and go gigs but can be harder on tubes.
Having the tubes in direct contact with the sound pressures from the speaker can make fairly noiseless tubes to become microphonic (noisy)

In the notes about this amp it states:
NOTE: We have recently changed the power transformer to the Mercury Magnetics FDP-20, which handles the increased current of the 6L6's. The wiring colors will differ from the schematic/layout.

I see the note on the layout about the chassis. It probably won't amount to much, possibly making the square opening a little larger.
I would contact Weber directly and ask them about it and whether the Mercury PT fits their chassis.

I would email your questions to Weber. They have a pretty good track record for helping customers.

Head unit for sure. I've got 4 10" speakers just begging for a 35-40W combo.. I emailed a couple questions already but haven't heard anything back yet. I was just curious if there was another manufacturer that did custom chassis work.. The more I look at the layout and the schematic, the more confused I am about how the spring reverb connects to the chassis innards, so maybe I should be thinking about a Tremolux instead..

Both of these guys will give you quality and reasonable prices. I don't know if they do custom and that will cost more no mater what.

This is the chassis/faceplates/eyelet boards kit i used for my Vibrolux Reverb build----- all Magnetic Components iron--- other parts here and there--- orig '67 cab i got from a friend and i looked for a real Fender Vib Rev amp chassis for a couple of yrs to no avail......... so i built the amp chassis up from repro parts------ looks like this: http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f112/ ... %20Reverb/
This is the amp in the "Vibrolux Reverb Surf" clip in my amp demo clips below.
Since the clip was recorded i've modded the circuit for later breakup and installed a nice pair of RCA Blackplate 6L6GC's---- and an old red jewel for the pilot lamp---- also picked up an old Fender two-button footswitch at the last Arlington Guitar Show----- i keep this amp in my workshop for my personal use, i like it very much.......................gldtp99

Well, the only problem is, the cut in the chassis for the transformer is more for a DR sound.. I was hoping to get a little more juice out of it than that.

Those trannies from Allen amps is built to drive two EL34's in a Deluxe size chassis that should work?
