Relay question?

I am try to find a way to do a couple thing with a foot board I have. I want a footswitch to adjust the mix of the verb like from a normal to surf. Just being done by switches do I need realys for that.

Next would be turning on and off the reverb
Fat boot Switch 4
Mid boost switch 5
Tremelo on and off .how can I. Run all these. I was thinking on the boost it's just mountin he cap to the switch and run the 2 negative wire to the floor board thru a midi typ connector and cable. That also could be done to turn the reverb and tremolo off to cause u just need to ground a certain pin on the tube. But I think to switch tone cap I might need a relay? Any thoughs

A relay is just a switch. The cool thing about them is that you can switch them on and off just by connecting or lifting the power ground. This makes it really useful for footpedal switching. A relay won't do anything that a normal switch won't.

If you want to switch caps, you will do better by using a remote switching device such as a relay.
There other methods to switch things remotely but I think the relay is the simplest. Such as solid state switchers.

For using relays, you just have to make sure the power supply for the relays is big enough for the job plus some extra amperage to run cooly and safely.

I have a small 6V6 amp that I use a footswitch to switch in a cathode cap on a preamp stage for a boost.
I did not use a relay on this one, just use the footswitch to complete the circuit.
The footswitch cable is 10-12 ft long and I don't notice any diverse effects from it.

But some things will not work well with this method, so the reason for relays.

Before committing to installing the relays for the switching you want, I would jury rig up some way of trying them out before drilling holes.
You may find that the effect isn't that great or that you don't use it enough to justify a permanent installation.
