That's funny LOL.
I thought I'd trim a little off the foil and change the value more to my liking. Then roll it back up. Give a whole new dimension to "tweaking".

This doesn't look any different than many other radial caps that I've pulled apart. Does this look like aluminum wrapped in PET to you guys?

Re: Anyone ordered directly from Sozo?
I wish someone would explain why a "hand-rolled" cap should offer inherently better performance than caps manufactured with precision by a machine. No sarcasm intended.

Because it gives you that "vintage analog sound".

What if vintage machines were used to make the caps? Better than caps rolled by younger hands??Cliff Schecht wrote:Because it gives you that "vintage analog sound".

I don't understand their claim of handwound?
But, I suppose it is the same as handwound pickups.
They still use a machine but the wire is hand fed onto the bobbin.
So with a cap, are they hand feeding the foil and dielectric onto a core?
I would love to see their shop.
I can picture a tiny room full of Asians running Singer sewing machines spinning caps.....
As with a recent pedal manufacturer busted for using cheap Chinese pedals for their "basement built" boutique pedals, I have a certain amount of skepticism when these claims are put forth.
Wouldn't that be something to learn these caps are just relabeled Mallory 150's.

I've been wondering about this also. I'd like to to see how they are made by "hand". Most likely old "vintage analogue sound" caps were made with less automation but I'm sure they were made in the most efficient way possible at the time. Kind of implies there's a machine.dynaman wrote:What if vintage machines were used to make the caps? A cap is a wrapped core between two wires, kind of like a spool of thread minus the spool. It seems to me that alignment and consistent tension would be important, if that so then I'd question the consistency of the hand made process. There's got to be some sort of spindle the core is wrapped around. Maybe they turn that spindle by hand.
"is this by hand?"

Not "dissing" the product just wondering about the hype.

clearly says no machine automation - I'm picturing more a Cuban cigar factory circa 1955"...the Vintage capacitors are made entirely by hand, with no machine automation."

Well they aren't making the dieletric by hand thats for sure.
I guess I just don't really understand their advertising claims...
the mustards sure...they were mylar...
but the astrons are supposed to be paper/mylar bi-film.

I hadn't heard of that before.
Shame on Lexicon!
I had an older Oppo DVD player that was very nice.
