I finally got the speaker cab built the way i wanted and have a few
being built as we speak. I posted a pic in the trainwreck
forum here if you want to take a look.

Re: 2Watt Sub Miniature Plexi
I am finally seeilng the ligt at the end of the tunnel on the second round of the Micro Plexi build. The prototype is almost finished. I just need to wire up the power supply and start testing the design. I am sure a little tweeking will take place. As soon as I have thie board tested and working I will be sending these out to have the boards and front panels made. I will probably start with a dozen of these to be sold as kits to anyone here on the forum who might want to build one, test and offer suggestions. I will let everone know when the kits are available but it will probably be a couple of months away for me to get everthing tested and in stock for the kits. These will be the only kits sold and after this first run the amp will only be available as a completed amp.
Here is a few pics of the prototype. I am still looking for suggestions on front panel color and knob choice.

That looks like a fun build!
Are the tubes soldered in? Do you expect them to last longer than full sized tubes?

Re: 2Watt Sub Miniature Plexi
The tubes will be in sockets for the production model. I can't do plate thru holes on the double sided boards that I make by hand so it's easier to build the prototype with the tubes soldered directly to the board. The sub miniature tubes are rated to military specs at 10,000 hrs use and are very rugged. They were designed for guided missle systems back in the 50s.xtian wrote:That looks like a fun build!

Dibs for a kit! Looking forward to building & playing it!!! Yeayy!!!
Re: 2Watt Sub Miniature Plexi
If it an homage to the Plexi it needs black/gold knobs and gold face.

The one he has is a proto type,so he is using the chassis etc from the lil devil. I was at Danas and we discussed the knob and cab.Cantplay wrote:If it an homage to the Plexi it needs black/gold knobs and gold face.

I'll try and keep ya posted on the kits. I think the first run will be 10 or 12 so I may have to start a list when I get closer to having them ready. As it stands now I have to get the amp tested and voiced, Send out the boards to have them made, order aluminum and schedule a date with the place where I make the chassis, get more transformer sets on order, order in all the parts that I need for 10 or 12 kits. It actually took me a while to get the assembly manual written last time too. It will probably be a couple of months out.MCK wrote:Dibs for a kit! Looking forward to building & playing it!!! Yeayy!!!
I'll let you know as soon as I get all the costs added up and come up with a price. I may have an optional footswitch available for channel switching if you guys think that is something that would add value and functionality to the amp.dorrisant wrote:Dana,

I'm already looking at my woodpile to set a 5A board aside for head case.
Chassis is appx 12" x4" I'guessing from scale of shots?

Re: 2Watt Sub Miniature Plexi
Timing for kit sounds good. Last time around the manual took a long time because you were planning to run kits for a long time and for all levels of people. Since you are now doing the kit as a one off run perhaps sending it out with minimal instructions might be a better way to go. You could set up a little mailing list and answer questions from each kit builder with the list in Cc so everyone learns from all other's questions and don't bog you down with same or similar questions. Just a thought.
Re. footswitch... Absolutely!
Thanks for making this happen.

Re: 2Watt Sub Miniature Plexi
I was able to fire up the amp for the first time last night and it is very promising but not quite there yet. Had the Bass control wired backwards on this board and took care of the problem on the production drawing. Both channels are doing exactly what I wanted, unlike the first prototype. Both channels can be blended or used individually and this time it worked flawlessly. I am going to change the node resistor values in the power supply. Right now they are stock Marshall values and the voltages are just too low on the preamp tubes. I also need to tweek the value of the 47k NFB resistor to get it into a range where the Presence control works better.
Then it will get the Richie test
and if it passes that we will be go for PCBs to be made.
