I wasn't able to get a good look at the bottle, but it was very plain like a white bleach bottle paper sticker about the size of a "hello my name is" sticker. I was told it was intended to be deluted when used and was pretty much the same as CLR but... if CLR was Caigs D5 this stuff was Caigs D100. I put the chassis in a stainless steal sink with the water running but not so strong it wouldn't drain and back up on the chassis poured about a cup full on the inside and started rubbing it in with a tooth brush and a rag. It was strong but not so toxic it would burn skin i didn't use gloves. The rust was gone in under 5 minutes only leaving a couple trouble spots. I used steal wool and the cleaner in the corners to get it loose where the friction of my finger or tooth brush just wasn't enough. From what they told me it's the same stuff they use to keep the toilets clean on airplains. What impressed the most was the way it ate the rust but left the Chassis stamp and washed clean leaving no film or residue. towel dry. It was done.

Sounds like the industrial cleaners with HF - hydrofluoric acid. Very popular, very strong, very toxic.
Safety tip: Next time use gloves. HF is nasty stuff - we take special precautions for skin exposure as HF is a calcium seeker. When you get an acid burn from HF it doesn't just stop at the skin but goes for the bone. Calcium gluconate, available in an ointment, is the first aid treatment - followed by a trip to the ER.
Wear gloves. Use good ventilation. A face shield would be a good idea as well - but some eye protection such as glasses should be worn at a minimum.
When you are done, make sure to rinse the chassis very well. Dry acid can also burn - it is reconstituted by the oils and moisture in your skin. I have witnessed some of the worst acid burns from "dry" counter tops.

What do you do when you're on tour ... sleep in the trailer?bnwitt wrote:Gerald Weber always says,
"Never leave your amp overnight anywhere you wouldn't sleep."
Re: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU STORE YOUR AMP IN THE GARAGE!!!
good advice! I would recommend the gloves, fresh air and eye protetion for sure.
Don't sleep in the trailer.. buy it a room of it's own, maybe a vibrating bed to help unwind the stress of a long day. do they even have those anymore? B.B. King buys lucille a seat on the plane.

Hi, Bob here:
Old post, I know. I'm reading all this great info and just came across it.
I used to have a plating shop. HF is hard to obtain non-commercially. The bowl cleaner is probably a different, less dangerous acid. When I bought hydrofluoric acid it came in a plastic carboy [bottle] since it melts glass [and yes, bones]!
BTW,Clorox, liquid plumber, etc. those are almost always alkalis, not acids. Acids are best though, they really go for the corrosion, as Skyboltone sez.

Phosfor acid (?) , H3PO4, is also known as "rust eater", and is very common as rust remover for cars....
otherwise fairly harmless

Just a little tip along these lines;
Let your amp cool back down to room temperature before sticking it back into a cover or road case. Stuffing away a hot amp can lead to condensation and problems over time.

That is a beautiful job on the Priceton.
My next door neighbour once sit on a rest area toilet seat that was impregnated with some burning sensation liquid paste...
It won't happen to me but. I always coat the seat with toilet paper...
Any smart ass prank will re-surface!
