...To be honest, I was wishing for some way to document the changes that may or may not have happened, and I'm not really sure how to do that....
I think many people share that sentiment. No one has been able to document the change that I am aware of. Sozo, as well as other manufacturers that are proponents of burn-in, should be motivated more than anyone to provide this documentation. Refer to one of the previous posts by teemuk. The one that show the scope plots. Those plots are posted on the Sozo site as proof that caps change as they burn-in. The BIG problem is those scope plots were originally posted on another site, by another person, for completely different reasons and those plots have nothing to do with cap burn-in! If Sozo must resort to lies as proof of burn-in, then what does that say about Sozo's belief in the changes that occur due to burn-in? Sozo is posting bullshit as proof and people are accepting it. Go figure. I take issue with false information being spread as truth. As always, if you hear a difference and you want to buy Sozo caps, then do so. I don't have any issues with Sozo caps. They seem to work fine as caps. I have a personal issue with the burn-in claims, the price, and the well-documented delivery problems.

I guess I'm a victim of drinking the Kool Aid here - I'm probably in over my head.

For now, I still choose to believe that my amp sounds better after sweeping those caps for a while. But you all have great points about why it could just be in my head. I readily admit that I'm half crazy and half deaf!

I also have wondered what changes could possibly take place in a film/foil cap. There's no electrolyte involved. But I also wonder, why then, do old film/foil caps go bad? Yellow Astrons are supposed to be notorious for being leaky. Does the dielectric just degrade over time?

Could the dielectric on a new cap be "conditioned" by keeping a voltage applied to it for a length of time? Could that cause a change in how it sounds? I guess that is the implication of all this "burn-in" business.

Maybe the change in sound is nothing more than the value of the cap changing a little. Maybe we could get the same effect by installing little trimmers across all our tone caps?
Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

Yeah, I wish there was something definitive about it backed up by science.

I think a lot of it is our ears and how we get used to a certain sound.

Sometimes when I fire up my 100w D clone, it sounds like heaven parting and angel wings on the holy grail.

Other times I hear stuff I don't like about it. :?

I put cap burn-in in the same category as cryo-treatment......total BS.
If you can't measure something, then you can't claim to know anything about it.
