hm.. now that you guys mentioned marshalls, i'm kind of interested in the JTM45.. any opinions on this?

i've found a kit here.. http://store.triodestore.com/jtm45tubeampkit.html the price seems pretty reasonable. has anyone used this website or have any opinions on this?

its about $480 with the chassis whereas its 520 from ceriatone, and you guys say their shipping is very high

In an apartment, even 5W is going to be too loud. The guys at AX84 have designed a number of very low wattage projects 1/2W to about 2W that are meant to mimic some popular big amps but at volumes you can use at home or in the studio. Take a good look there. Also look at VVR.

Dude, if you are studying engineering, you owe it to yourself to build an amp from parts, from the ground up. This is a rite of passage in your education. Some things were truly better in days of yore. 8)

+++1 on what Colossal said.
Too many electrical engineers have gaping holes in their knowledge.
This stuff is fun.
And a little bit addictive...

isn't that what i'm doing? if i get a jtm45 kit it's all parts. the ceriatone was the only one that had the pre assembled turret board

See my post just before yours. In combo form this the Bluesbreaker I mentioned above, essentially the 1987 circuit Reeltarded talked about, and a variation on what you have. It'd need an MV or power scaling to be usable in an apartment.

well im reconsidering my apartment requirement. i have a bugera 5V with .1W option that suits me perfectly in the apartment.

i guess i just want something badass that i'll be proud of when i'm done and that's not TOO difficult as a starter.

Don't listen to Bob. It's not even a little addictive.. it will consume you. You will be wondering about time constants @ 4am. You will be chopsticking noodles in a bowl of soup to study new ideas for routing wires to create good parasitic ostrichlations.. errr ozzylation... The little lines on the oscilloscope.. they call them harmonics, but they aren't hurting anything.

Silly..

The BEST part is hanging out here. I swear. Always something fun to read about and drive the experienced guys nuts. :)

Bluesbreakers are awesome. This is just the 5F6-A circuit done with ECC83s, English transformers and horribly cheap Turkish coupling caps (Iskra, division of Philips IIRC).Bluesbreakers mount the tubes sideways (not ideal). You want KT66s. And you should scale it.

are there any blues breakers kits? or how would i change the 5fg-A circuit to work with ecc83?

also why did you mention kt66?

A BB is actually a JTM45-T. (Trem) What you are looking for is a JTM45 kit, or you can peruse the Metro Amp forums and look for parts.

www.valvestorm.com for a checklist and all the small parts

www.metroamp.com forums for other stuff and the wiki has the instructions/layouts

Classictone, Merren, Heyboer, or Wallace transformers. Classictone is very inexpensive with tons of great results.

Brian Wallace makes a really good output transformer for the 45. www.marstran.com

Those places will get you started, for sure.

wow, after firestorm mentioned the 5F6a, i looked it up and i'm really liking what i hear from that.

has anyone ordered from here: http://taweber.powweb.com/store/kits_50a.htm ? I'm interested in the 5f6-a head. Does this come with the head shell as well and transformers? The price seems too good.
