yes, it is discolored. my first problem I had powering up this amp was that the end of the wire from the resistor was not trimmed short enough and was making just enough contact to ground on the nut next to the tube socket. while I was using a variac to slowly apply voltage for the first time I saw smoke and quickly turned off power. after the problem was found and corrected I checked the resistance and it still was within tolerances so I left it in. I probably should change it out though to be safe.

thanks,

my resistor order came in today. thanks fedex for not making me waite until Monday. I just finished replacing the 470K PI bias resistor with the correct 470ohm resistor as well as replacing the 100ohm that got a little crispy. the volume now seams to be where it should be, yeah! I just want to get the power tube bias set correctly now before putting it in it's cabinet. I have the bias at -12.55 volts at the 220K ohm resistors, pin 2 of the el84's. my curiosity now is that with my compu bias attached it is shows 20+ disipated watts, I wish I had written down the cathode current and the exact disipated wattage but unfortunately I forgot to before powering it off. the plate voltage was around ~350 once it got warmed up but was a round ~400 before that. I'll get it there though.

I want to thank everybody who chimmed in with suggestions and ideas that helped to get this thing going.
