Re: Cameron Marshall Mods
Well Bob: I've seen a few (thankfully a limited amount) of my amps butchered. It seems someone always wants the slightest something more, and someone else promises they can give it to them....the last person they think to call is the guy who made it. When your ODS doesn't quite sound like an SLO, perhaps realizing it wasn't made to sound like one is a start.....
Proud holder of US Patent # 7336165.

Re: Cameron Marshall Mods
I don't mean as a builder, Andy...
If I built an amp and sold it, and somebody had it butchered, that would be one thing perhaps. It after all, was sold...
But if somebody did that to an amp I owned, without my knowledge, as apparently happened to the amp in question...
Remember in Gimme Shelter, the look on the Angel's face when some idiot in the crowd knocked his bike over?
Somewhere around there...

Please understand that IMO an answer to this question is of no practical relevance at all. - Max

I wish people had more common sense, It's a lost art. I deal with this on a daily basis. Drives me F'n Crazy!!!FUCHSAUDIO wrote:Well Bob: I've seen a few (thankfully a limited amount) of my amps butchered. It's not that you can't tweak a circuit slightly one way or another, but at what point do you stop once you start? The same people that want just a little more or less of something often lack the self control to say OK that's enough it's perfect.... usually... I want more!
It reminds me of the kids that buy honda's and add all the aftermarket parts to make them into a sports cars. dropping $80K+ only to end up with a car that is still a honda, but suddenly appeals to a very small buyers market when they go to sell it and get nothing back on the investment. where a used sports car would hold the bulk of the $80K investment.
I think people are to wrapped up in Name brands or model numbers, which prevents them from using their ears to chose what works best for them. I have a friend who has some very nice equipment but no matter what he can never be happy with his tone. I've tweaked most of his stuff one way or another and usually end up right where it started after a few trips on the bench. I've come to the realization his hearing loss is so extreme he can't tell the difference. so it's all made up in his head.
Maybe we need a class on how to listen.

I agree Bob, If i had an amp serviced and returned like this, I'd make sure it was the last amp he touched.Bob Simpson wrote:I don't mean as a builder, Andy...

It's one thing to protect your trade secrets, but that amp is simply unserviceable. Imagine trying to perform some simple maintenance like replacing the electrolytics?

That's easy! You just remove the board and all the other parts, use a heavy chemical to clean the chassis, and put in new partsAlexo wrote:It's one thing to protect your trade secrets, but that amp is simply unserviceable. Re: Cameron Marshall Mods
I own a CCV and HG Jose mod.........simply the best tone for me. Mark can make an amp sound great.

Too bad that Mark's mods are taken from others. Hidden for reason since he is using this as a method to sell amps.
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!

Re: Cameron Marshall Mods
Do you have only one of these? No back-up? How about service/repair in the field? Don't tell me it won't ever fail.jcmtone1 wrote:I own the Cameron Amp that Andy Fuchs is talking about. I was a little upset when I saw all the goop on the amp...
I'm sure it sounds like nothing else on the planet. It's the execution of mods that's abominable. There are prettier and better ways to safeguard "The great MC secret". As is, it should have a name plate saying "Butchered by Frankenstein".
Whenever anything like this comes to my workshop I refuse to work on it and refer the customer back to whoever had his welding and gooping gear in the amp last.

Re: Cameron Marshall Mods
Lemme get this straight. This Cameron fella is doing this to amps without telling his customers that there's no turning back once the mods are in place and that the amp will most likely not be serviceable from there on?
This guy is the Jack Kevorkian of amps.

Re: Cameron Marshall Mods
Wow, and this is the guy that came up with that famous Marshall that *everyone* wanted in the 80's? If I didn't know who did this, I would have thought it was a hack job...look at those solder globs!
On a lighter note...what are those box caps he's using int here? Wima?

Poor Jack, he was simply misunderstood by the true evils of the world, the media and religion. On the other hand I think M. Cameron may be a bit misunderstood as well.
Re: Cameron Marshall Mods
I guess Kevorkian was probably the wrong person to compare. At least Kevorkian patients know exactly what's going to happen up front.eddie25 wrote:Masco wrote:Lemme get this straight.
