TW express sounds way better with a resister
dumble sounds better with choke
fender blackface better with choke
marshall 18w sounds better with resistor.

my guess is it would sound better with the correct choke, but you'd really have to compare and listen and see what YOU like better... alot of amps went with resisters though to save on $.. so its not always a tone decision but in some i think it is, or a happy accident

What about Tweed Fender? Say a Deluxe for example?

That is the one draw back of this amp. This amp is about the OD tones. If you set the gain low, then it cleans up well, but that was not the intent of this amp. My son likes what I call "cookie monster" music. You know, where the singer sounds like the aforementioned puppet? Loud, aggressive OD tones...
