OK.Thanks for explaining WHY it is not a good idea.
It sounded ok though.
If I had run it for a long time one of the power tubes would have worn out BEFORE the other one ? :?:

Anyway,I ended up with a RCA 12ay7 in v1,a GE 5751 in v2,and a GE 5751 PI.
I'm runnin' 2 american 6v6 "pulls" and a JJ 5ar4.
A Weber 1230-55 makes it loud.

It sounds very big & breaks up nice.

Thanks,
JJ

JJ, forgive me for voicing a different opinion here, but I think you might be going about this the wrong way. Changing the tubes will severely limit what that wonderful amp can do. if your problme is that the humbucking based guitar is too hot, I'd recommend an outboard solution.

1. Turn down the volume pot on your guitar. Simple and free.
2. Get a volume pedal and back it off a little
3. Get a clean boost pedal that allows your to turn down the volume as well as turning it up.

I assume from your posting that you have a single coil guitar as well, and you probably like the way it sounds in that amp. So why ruin that option by changing the tubes?

Sorry if you think I am off subject - no harm meant.

I agree with sliberty. An HB guitar provides stronger signal to the input to the 1st tube stage. Changing tube types in the amp does not resolve that "issue" and changes the character of the amp. Perhaps for the better or perhaps not.

I would be looking to use a "low" input jack if possible.

I remember when my uncle plugged his LP into the normal channel of my SFDR and it was so much louder than my Strat at the same volume setting in the Vib channel. So we turned his down on the amp.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.

Hey,don't overthink it.
I am up and down with my guitar volume & tone constantly depending on the song, pickup combination, etc.
No volume pedals,clean boost,etc.,thanks.
The low input jack would destroy the dynamics.
It's workin' GREAT !

Thanks,
JJ
