Cygnus X1

Thanks for the kind words.

I got the MV to work by changing the wiring. I noticed a difference between various Spitfire schematics and also some from other amps so I decided to move the wires around. The MV works very well now.

The amp is very loud for a 15/18 watt. I changed the preamp tubes to ecc83 JJs and run it through a 212 open back cab with Celestion Vin 30s. The spitfire is using Marshall 18w trannies. What are you using?

My Deluxe was lacking power with the 6V6 so I put my worse set of 6L6s in there and that opened that amp alot.

I have to go back and look at mine.
Something is not right.

Which MV schematic ended up working?

I used the attached schematics MV wiring. Just move over to the other side of the MV pot.

I forgot to tell you I dropped this amp the other night when I was bolting it back into the cab. It bent the mount ears and broke my GZ34 tube. I replace the tube and it works as good as ever.

I want to build the Lightning version with four EL84s that would be a perfect amp for me. Something about this crazy little Spitfire amps tone that I like but I want more volume, huh! :D  8)

Power transformer

Post by sst4270 »

Hey Mark,

I'm interested in this build.

What power transformer did you use? I realize you said it was Heyboer 18W Marshall set, but aren't the 18W Marshall PT's usually z-axis types?

thanks,

Steve

Steve,

You can get a complete kit from Ken Watts at Turretboards.com they are in the process of moving into a larger building at this time.

Or you can order the Marshall 18w style trannies from them. Look at the build pictures on the site, layout and schematic and you can see this is what I went by. I wish I had just bought the kit. But I had alot of parts so went with his chassis off of ebay and the tranny set. No choke.
