CEDist... It was a few years back. I could be wrong but I don't think they have any of those stocked at this point. If you did order them it is probably from a new batch. They got some negative messages of all kinds over the debacle.BrownIsound wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 3:54 pm Where did you get these from? So someone else doesn’t get these.

Even if a build looks like a dumpster fire, if it sounds stellar and is dead quiet, it's a winner.

I thought it was just me! I bought some in EU last year and couldn’t get them to take solder no matter how much I heated them. I felt stupid…

Why not just use the turrets as a supports to wrap component leads around and solder the leads together? I know it's not ideal.

That isn't the excellent amp I am building
You can't trist them to not vibrate lose in the first weeks. That would cost several hours of work and hard to reuse high-end parts.
No!!

Funny I should see this post. Have had a hard time with 2mm turrets from Antique Electronic Supply / Amplified Parts on separate orders over the last year or so. The Kestler just flows right down the hole, sometimes it tries to solder, but very frustrating. I started filing the tops off to the copper coat.
So in short, who has good turrets?

Re: Remember those non-stick turrets from ten years ago?
I have had a couple of clients attempt to build their first amp with the non-stick turrets. Pretty cruel trick to play on someone who is just getting started and doesn't know how stuff is supposed to work. I think they were both eBay turret boards in the past 2-3 years. If I remember correctly, on one occasion I used sandpaper, then a really hot iron and lots of flux to tin everything before putting components back on and it worked fine. On the other occasion, I started over with good parts.
If I had a bag of those turrets, I would probably degrease as much as possible then soak them in some liquid tin. Really nasty chemical, but it adds a good enough tin plating without any special tools.

The Turrets from AE are problematic. On my current VC build I had several issues with the turrets going cold solder. I think I am heading back to eyelets as well.

Back when I used turrets the Watts double turrets were nicely tinned and took solder like a sponge. No hole in the center though.
