Structo , I bought this unit with about 4 other amplifiers . I gutted one that was an old Bogen mono unit for the trannies and the others I sold on an auction site . I had a look at all of the units and this one impressed me the most due to the neatness . To me it looked like the easiest one to work on . Phil , I think you were right about that "white" cap looking out of place . I clipped it out and had a closer look at the power supply . The soldering is a little messy and not to the same quality as the rest of the solder joints . Also said cap is not the value that the schematic shows . I have a splitting migraine that was only a mild headache before I went on the Mouser site . I did finally figure out how to use their filtering system for searching though . I also thought ,as you pointed out Phil , that I should get the filter supply section up to snuff before "fixing" anything else . A quick question on the diode rectifiers . I have a pile of 1n4007 (PIV 1000 volts) diodes . Would these be ok to use . Oh by the way I would like to say thanks for all of the comments and help from everyone here on the forum . Much appreciated .

1N4007 should be fine. I doubt anything that "advanced" existed when the amp was built. Think of them as an upgrade.

Disc caps tend to sound grainy when you pump enough signal through them and they are always microphonic to one level or another dependant on there size!
If you want some fun some boring day get yourself a big disc cap, like a .01 @ 1kv and hook it across the input to a amp and you can actually talk into it like a it was a Mic!!
When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming like the passengers in his car!

Cutting out a man's tongue does not mean he’s a liar, but it does show that you fear the truth he might speak about you!
