This master does sound good at low volumes IMHO. A lot better then the rich mod i had on my old plexi. The one on the plexi sounded terrible, harsh unless you turned it up and then it was to loud.

Martin- are you sure the master pot is flying leads? Mine looked like it was mounted to the circuit board like the other pots. I hope your right it woul be easier to replace.

Yes, mine has flying leads, and the wires appear to match the other wires in the amp exactly. Perhaps there was a shortage of the PCB-mount pots and that was the work-around. I've seen gut shots with PCB-mount pots and also with 2-conductor shielded cable connecting the pots.

Both the Plexi (1987) and Studio 15 have GNFB.

We may never know unless martin or jamme61 is willing to remove the diodes to hear what happens to the sound, and so I respectfully ask that one try it and share the info!
I remember hearing one of these back in the day and thinking that this was the first amp I had played through that still had a great sound even with the master down to a reasonable volume. From what I remember, the possibility that diode clippers come in as the master is turned down could explain what I was hearing. I'd sure like to know more about this master!
Thanks,
Skeez
