Haha, yeah. If I were you, I would probably keep it simple and do a JCM800 with an additional gain stage and a resonance control.

I know the doom metal guys like really bad sounding amps with lots of blocking distortion.

Try the DBM #39 four gain schematic it can spew out metal no problem.

From the sound, I assumed the ultimate metal tone was a high powered sandy state amp with a diode clipper and compressor up front, and the requisite detuned dual mudbucker guitar, with 6,7, or 8 strings.

Metal discussions on this board are always classic. Remember when we were young and like "old people just don't get it."? I actually started getting into heavy metal the older I got, but there's a lot of good stuff that people just never hear because they can't get past the extreme metal thing. Just sayin.

I would say 1959 circuit with channels jumped!

Does he play more rhythm or lead? If rhythm, the modern channel of the Dual Rec with 6L6's would still get my vote. If lead, Maybe some channel off a Mark V if you could find it? Maybe something Bogner? EL34's for sure though. Yup. I'm a metal dude. Never been big on the whole rectum thing though...

Dood. 9 is one moe. These go to 9.

Cheaper than a bass player.

Dual Rec is a bad copy of the SLO????

I had both and they are not, IMO the dual rec is a better amp :)

The Mike built SLO isn't the production face bleeding highend monkey that the one in stores was. Those amps...

Umm..

The Boogie is an easier amp to play, for POSITIVE. Not even close to each other.
