Less plate to red... red as a verb. I redded my plates.. for instance.

Maybe I need to drill some holes in my avatar tube.
It's been glowing red for a while.

Print it before you drill.

I only use old tubes.I bought a bunch of used ones when they used to cost near nothing.I picked up some NOS japenese made el34's Have been running over 500 volts on the plates and screens I'm very happy with them.I don't really have any other 34's to compare to though.
Long plate tung-sol 12ax7 (original)Sound fantastic in most fender circuits.They are prone to noise though.I have to admit the few Mullards I have are all quite and sound great in train wrecks.
Weird thing the only 5751 I have is one of those triple mica supported thingies.and its noisy as hell.
I have some NOS 6eu7's that I'm gonna do some more builds with and some 7591's.

So let me get to the gist of the question:
How do you rectify the fact that you're "wearing out" your tubes as you play, and may not be able to get more when you're in need or may have to pay 5 times your previous payment to get them? Do you just say "Ce la vie"?

I use what works when I get there. The future is uncertain, but for the moment...

Treat em like kids. Treasure them while you can and realize everything is impermanent.BTF wrote:So let me get to the gist of the question:

Re: Do You Use Your Old Stock Tubes?
Why do I have original sets of tubes in 40+ year old amps? Dood, they are going to last forever!
I blame variac. I love you, variac. Marry me.

Buy as many as you can, and hoard them?BTF wrote:So let me get to the gist of the question:

Re: Do You Use Your Old Stock Tubes?
Yes. Exactly. Buy, listen, hoard, and use in your amps, The more amps you have the less hours per tube usage...I'm up to a few hundred tubes and 15 amps.
Re: Do You Use Your Old Stock Tubes?
They're speed holes. They improve your shredding. Malmsteem uses them in all his amps. They double the speed the electrons work at and create a false second tube. To calculate the speed use the formula: (VC*2/3)*(NH)=RFSStructo wrote:Nice but the inside thingy has holes in it.
WHere VC = Voltage at cathode
NH = Number of holes
RF = Rock Faster Speed
Re: Do You Use Your Old Stock Tubes?
The plates are also scalloped so you can do impossible things with them compared to unscalloped trash like old Genalex and Telefunken...

Speed holes eh? We-heh-heh-heh-ell, maybe the 'ol Flanders-axe needs some speed holes too!tribi9 wrote:They're speed holes. They improve your shredding
