What is the purpose of the dual 500k pot for gain?

Go easy, I'm stupid.

That way you have simply one gain control for low gain and hi gain input, and a wider gain control on hi gain input.
Signals are in 180° out of phase, so you don't have any positive feedback effect possible.

i've built several naylor sd60 type amps. (both the pre 96 and post 96 circuits). i have a few transformer sets to build these if anyone here is interested. i like the pre 96 circuit a lot, but both are good. i also add a a switch for an extra parallel treble cap for more upper mids if needed. the presence circuit is unique and is really cool. rh

Thanks rhinson
what are the main differences in the pre and post 96 circuits? Any clips?
Here is a quick mockup of pre amp board what I can figure out anyway. Am I anywhere close?

all the schematics for both are in this thread posted by the designer of the orignal circuits used by naylor (danny russell---a great builder). you can also find some good chassis pics if you search the gear page. rh

I would consider using two separate gain controls instead of the dual pot. That would make it more flexible. You still can adjust them to the same knob position.

You will probably still have to compromise if you were to switch between modes during play.

Say Bob, the 22uf on the presence pot, its an elytic right?
Was a bit confused with the handdrawn schems ive seen, he symbols across the board are for bipolars. Found some chassis pics, and sure enough looks to be an elytic on the presence pot.
Im gonna try this out on my express, see what happens..

yeah just a normal lytic. and it's part of the whole presence and p.i. circuit so you need to change the whole thing around it for effect. note the use of a nfb cap and not resistor. these are probably dark amps by some people's standards.

Ahh ok, maybe I will wait till I build this sd60. Ordered an OT and choke yesterday. Looking forward to this. Bob, your preference on the the early one, that doesn't have the dual gang pot does it?
