You cheap sons of a .... I ordered a couple to show faith and asked for a sample and got it. Well, at least the one sample brought the price down a tad. Now I can afford to buy Taylor's Tony Little Gazelle off his ebay auction.

Interesting thing about picks

Used to use purple 1.1mm Dunlop for about 25 years.

Then about a year ago I was at a rehearsal and realised that for the first time in many years I had forgot a pick. Fortunate enough that particular rehearsal room is used by many bands, wherefore I was lucky enough to find a pick on the floor that looked pretty new. This was a blue Dunlop 3mm "stubby".

Like Tom (Structo) I came to realise that its much easier to play with (Robben Ford'esque) dynamics and variating your attack with a very thick pick, that doesn't bend or flex, at all. Instead off a flexible pick that seems to even out the tones more. Even if my 'old' pick was thick.

The tortex squeak if i dont pick fairly flat, at least w the strings i have on now.

When not using just fingers, I use a Wegner pick. It has a thick body with a canted edge that gets rid of the clacky spike on the initial attack of notes. They make several styles. The one I like is the giant one with grooves cut in the center, it never falls out of hand. The down side is cost. ~ $20.

Now that I ordered the pick punch I'll be using Fowler plastic I already started searching the house and shop for usuable material.

Besides gives me and my grandkids a fun project.

You can buy a 12x12" sheet of Ultem from McMaster-Carr for around $28.

It is a very stiff hard plastic.

that pick punch looks awesome, who'd da thunk it...

I remember a retired plastics engineer used to go up and down the east coast
selling his own pick shapes and plastic blends, great way to retire...

I used to make custom jazz picks out of anything from agate, horn, antler
mammoth ivory, shell... every material has it own tone, fun on a lapidary wheel
