I've used LCR Polystyrene caps in some builds and I do think they sound very smooth and clear.

Mica can sound a bit harsh sometimes.

But my favourite is ceramic.. cheaper the better haha.

The AC30 4 (the original model with the EF86 preamp tube and Radio Spares OT) used Wima Polystyrene Caps. This is the holy grail for Vox AC30.

Wow, he raised the price and says they are no longer being made.

It looks like the Mouser polystyrenes are only rated up to 50v.

Hi Structo,

I get mixed accounts on the polystryrenes, most sources state the styrenes are carcinogenic to make (I guess I am doomed after all the model airplanes cars and ships I built in my youth), yet I see companies stock NNS (New New Stock).

The polystyrenes were (are?) used in alot of test equipment as being very stable.

Best Regards,

Steve

I have some Mullard Polystyrenes which look almost identical.

I scored enough Wima PS Caps from a European website (being able to read in more than one language has come in handy, scored a matched quad of 5992 Bendix Tubes for a fraction of the going rate of $128 each) for a complete Vox AC30 build.

I liked the few Wima caps I tried but the short, stubby lead lengths are a turn off.
