peavey parts are very close to tolorance so if you put in a new part it will often take out the next part in the chain as the flow is more then the old part can handle.
still this should have been an easy fix.
he should have used common sense, visually inspected , tested tubes, etc. then if he was still at a loss stuck it with tone and traced it. located the area, isolated the problem, fixed it and moved on. bench tested the amp and returned it. on the bench off the bench.. 2hrs max.
here is the part the gets me. if he can't fix it he doesn't get paid. unless he's one of the techs i hear about making the majority of thier living on the $35 estimate, never really having to repair anything because they quote a high price / or just can't fix it.
oh well at this point it is what it is.

I am kind of person that if something has me stumped I'm working non stop racking my Brain trying to find a solution.. I can't just push something to the side like that.. But I gues I'm different than he... I should be getting my 6505 onwednesday so at least I'll have somehow to play. But I can't wait to get my ultra plus back.. I love the voicing and over all tone.. There is just something about that amp that I love.. Ultra plus is a very overlooked amp..and doesn't get the credit that it should..

So I goto peavey.com because I want to look up service centers.. I put my zip code in 41139 and long behold #1 spot on the authorized peavey service list for my area sundown productions the guy I took mine too.. He is a authorized peavey service tech.. What the he'll!!
Re: how long should it take for a amp repair
call peavey and discuss your experience. to many complaints and they will pull his certification.
He has every resource at his disposal and I'm confident your amp is not the first to have this problem. it's probably a faulty part running to close to max tolorance.

Sometimes I drag my feet on amps in the shop but I always communicate with my customers and thats what keeps them coming back. I will give them loners worth the same if I am taking awhile. If he isnt giving you info and you have a bad feeling, go get your amp back and send the chassis to one of us. There is def a member that can fix it

Re: how long should it take for a amp repair
Okay well here's a update.. U all know I emailed peavey, well peavey called him.. Friday.. And grant from peavey assisted him in fixing my amp.. 2 resistors which were 2.45. Then he call me yesterday saying it was finished.. He charged me 122.45 for 4 hrs of labor and 2.45 for parts.. Now remind u he had this thing for 7 weeks and put on bench 4 weeks ago.. I was pissed off!! It wasn't the cash, it was his lack of communication, and motavation he had toward my amp.. And that it took him 4 weeks, me emailing peavey and threating to take my amp else where.. To get him to ask peavey for help.. And if grant didn't ask him he prob never would have.. I paid him the 122.45. But I felt like I shouldn't have paid that much.. What do u guys think??? But when I left I exchanged a few cuss words to him and told him I will never be back and will never send any work his way. But I'm just glad I have it back..thanks to all
Re: how long should it take for a amp repair
It prob felt good to swear but not the best way to handle that.
Does he warranty his work? is it covered by peavey or only by him? I ask in the event it's not completely fixed can you send it with your reciept to another peavey center and not be double charged?
His rates aren't that much $$$ I charge $60hr, the difference, you would have been kept in the loop, it wouldn't have taken me 4 hours (if it did i wouldn't have billed you for all that time) and it would have been back in your hands in a couple days max.
I'm not sure how he got 4 hours of repair time out of that amp. But as you said, it's fixed and it's water under the bridge at this point.
You might want to contact peavey as a follow up and let them know how much you were charged for the repair. IMHO It was a 2 hour max, and that's counting the time it takes to remove the cabinet and test the amp.
What parts did he charge you for?

At this point let it go and move on... enjoy your amp.
play it loud and with distortion until you are no longer upset
