I think you already know you need a cab for the speaker. It will make an enormous difference. You already have an amp we know sounds good. Having a cab will confirm it's great.
If you are really on a budget, buy heavy duty a cardboard box about 1.25 cu ft. , or maybe a bit larger, but not too much. Put a sandbag or other counterweight in the bottom to keep it from tipping over when you mount the speaker. Use it as an open back cab. Reinforce the "baffle" with the cardboard you cut out of the back. For $5 you can have a temporary cab.
Here is a relatively cheap kit for a 12" driver. I bought one of these and cut a new baffle for a 2x10 and it works well. You don't even need to put a finish on it if you don't want to. The only other thing I deviated from in making it was to avoid gluing the baffle so I could "service" it. I also did a crappy job of covering it, but that's a whole other story. I think, if you look around, you can find a coupon code for free shipping if that's not already part of the deal.

Re: The British Bomber - EL84 amp
I have a speaker cab back at home, I just haven't had a chance to go back down to get it. I'm moving to my new places in May so I'll get it then.
