cool. thanks firestorm.
so i gave it a try with a 50 watt production amp that i have here that i know works perfectly. it's fully tubed. i turned it on (with standby off) and got a bright glow, then dimmed. so i think the current limiter is working??
so then i tried the rocket build (with NO tubes, not even recto) and got just an extremely low glow of the filament. so i think i'm in good shape??
i just wanted to see if there was a way to test the limiter to verify it was working. i read all of those instructables and no one mentioned a way to test it, but my wiring matched up

Do yourself a favor. go to ebay and buy a variac. the bulb limiter caused me nothing but confusion on my first build and chances are once you get this amp up and running you WILL want to build another.

If you buy a variac pick one with an amperage meter it'll save you a lot of grief and fuses. As you bring up the amp on power if the amp meter goes up you have an issue and can power down before it causes damage.
Read up on variac safety, GFI's, and isolation transformers.
