What is wrong with these mod guys!? That is one of the worst service jobs i've seen. I deal with a lot of hot glue, it seems to have been a fad in the LA area during the 80's, and still a popular fix amongst Meth addicts.

Seriously, why do techs feel the need to destroy amplifiers to hide work that if you really wanted to know you can find on the internet?
are his solder points really that messy?

That amp is completely worthless now.
The cost of restoration is $1k's more then buying the same model that hasn't been defaced.
I can't believe people pay money to have him F'up their amps.

I'm worried that you even know that
It's a PITA using this stuff with a brush, trying to get a smooth finish :D

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've seen it stated that this is the stuff that Marshall used to coat connections with.

a big difference between coating connections and taking a dump on the whole amp....

That's called the Orange mod.

I'd be afraid that the amp wouldn't even work right after spraying all that crap on it.
And we worry about the difference between types of resistors and caps......

It keeps the costs down. Once you goop, you are done with tweaking because there is no going back. It is a bit like painting yourself in a corner, literally. Now that you have sold and performed a mod for a client, there is no way to add features or sell them your upgraded mods in the future.

We used to buy specialized modules at work for control systems. One of the things we bought were little converters for data aquisistion (DAQ-PACs). These things were roughly 2" x 2" x 3/4" and were totally encased in epoxy. Having a few disposable black boxes mounted in the amp would be much preferred to making an amplifier totally unservicable.

I had a customer's 50-watt Plexi in once that had been stripped of its caps, pots and jacks; extensively modded and gooped (with "traditional" epoxy). That was one labor-intensive restoration ...

I used to goop, and I realized that service, and possible tweaks were then out of the question. I saw my own amps where people did the same things I did to Dumbles: Sat around with dental picks and got into the goop anyway. Other than epoxy, you will really never protect anything 100% anyway. The same companies who make the goop, well, they also make de-gooping compounds that desolve it !

Ironically, of all the same internet/TGP boobs that were are all hot about Cameron are now hot about the flavor of the week: The Retro-Wreck amps. Nobody seems at-all bothered they overheat at 4 ohms and are encapsulated in a block of epoxy....go figure. Oh, the builder "promisesmodules will be available for a long time"...oh.

It's just the latest flavor or fad at TGP Andy.
In a month or two those SS amps will be in the emporium.

An abortion like that in an amp of mine would result in my shoving a pit-bull attorney up an amp guru's ass...
