+1 on original iron, especially the OT. If the OT is not original, discount bigtime or look elsewhere.
Re: Bassman AB165 Advice
I just sold one of these with a like new original cabinet, new filter caps, original blue mallory caps on the board, all original intact iron and good old USA Fender branded power tubes for $485 plus shipping. Replacing the big old carbon comp power resistors is probably necessary on most of these as they don't hold up as well as modern resistors. Unless it was stored in a damp underground tomb, I doubt that the board is so moist as to be causing the problems.
Go through the power section on any of these and recap and replace screen grid resistors, and HV dropping resistors, clean up and tension socket or replace as needed . Also, the input jack switching contacts should be cleaned up and a light touch of deOxit will help keep them quiet and make good contact.
I disconnect the ground reversal switch which is a deadly thing to have. I replace the extra power socket with an IEC mains receptacle and rewired the mains to it and properly ground it to the chassis and use a pull out disconnect computer power cord.

I just rebuilt a silverface to AA165 specs.. the pic here is early in the rebuild and has some errors . not to mention some slop!..
but I fired it up just tonight and all tubes light... seems ok, just have to test voltages and calc. bias.
I have to look up ways to use the unused triode..
and I think there's a mid pot mod to replace the pwr socket on the back.
and more..
if anyone has schem. or layouts for mods to this model.. I'm a looking!
