Source for large diameter 9-pin socket?

Post by FE911 »

Hi everyone, need some help finding a large 9-pin socket. I was working on an old amp last night and broke a pin. The problem was that it is an old Amphenol socket for a 12ax7 that is the size of a larger octal socket. Pretty nice, too bad I broke it. More finesse next time! Anyone have any ideas? It uses the wavy spring clasp thingamajig to hold it on-no screws.

AES (tubesandmore) makes an adaptor plate for mounting 9-pin sockets in octal holes. Dunno how to link directly to it on their site, but look in "Vacuum tube accessories"

If you want a period-correct one, this is probably your best bet.

9-pin

Thanks for the replies everyone. I figured it out, thanks to Noel (stubbyfex on here). I stopped by his shop and he told me the simple way. Just push out a pin from a spare socket, and put it in. Simple as that. No unsoldering the rest of the jack, sourcing, etc. Took literally 2 minutes and I was back in business. Sometimes the simple fix is the best. I need to stand back, take a break, and think about things a little more. Thanks again, Ed

Well yeah, you didn't say you wanted to just fix the socket!

Props to Stubby for the simple and easy fix. :D
