diode ?
i have a bunch of diodes some are glass some are gold or silver bell shaped i hooked one up to a pt it gave me like 314 volts dc, some higher some lower if a diode puts out the right b+ voltages will they work or are there other issuse in choosing a recto??
Re: diode ?
they need to be able to safely handle the current of the PT.
modern diodes are available for something like seven to 25 cents each; why take a chance on a part that is that cheap.

Re: diode ?
Read the numbers off of the diodes then look them up to see if they will work for wht you want to do. For many amps you only need 4, that's less than a buck with tax. Even Rat Shack would have those. Most likely what you need are 1N4007 or 1N5408. I understand trying to do this on the cheap but safety is something not to be ignored...yours and your equipment's.

Re: diode ?
its not a cost issue. its just ive got them there taking space in my parts drawers ill go through them. i was wondering about current. if i hook them to a hv thats 300v and they convert to 330 340v dc i thought they would be usable. but if there not ill toss them. i thought they may be of some use if you or anyone else could post part numbers of usable ones id save them some of them dont have numbers there color coded. some are silver and gold shaped bells. some are glass
