FX loop foot switch

Post by M Fowler »

The Febrary 2009 guitarplayer has an article by Gerald Weber on building this fx switcher.

I hope one of you guys with Visio can redo this and get it out there for everyone. I hand drew this crazy layout (I know) then scanned it into paint and uploaded it. I don't know how to do all that fancy stuff you people do.

I like to use 3PDT Cliff Push On, Push Off foot switches. Then I can use the third pole for an LED. You can also have the third pole "ground" the LED to turn it on, AND when the LED is off, the ground can short out the return jack, to minimize switching pops.

I buy a lot of parts from mojo. Here is a link to the switches after the text.
I don't have a drawing program for my Mac Mini, or I'd draw up a schematic for you. Your switcher schematic is fine. The third pole would be wired up like this: The center lug would go to ground. The negative of the LED would go to one outside lug of the switch. The positive of the LED would go to a current limiter resistor, perhaps 1K with 9 volt supply. Then the other outer lug of the switch would go to the "hot" of the return jack. When the switch is pushed so that the effect is "on", then the LED should be "on". When the switch is in the other position, the LED is "off" and the effect is "off". Hope that is understandable. I guess this is one time when a picture Would be worth 1000 words!
