Rocket tranny no room for grommet

Re: Rocket tranny no room for grommet
Bought more tools...oh yea that's my favorite solution.
Sears has this:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1260 ... Name=Tools
It works ok but doesn't leave the smoothest finish. My solution is to sand and round hole edges up to 400 grit wet/dry and not use a grommet. I could paint the edge with nail polish or plasticoat but I have it so smooth that there should be no problem.
I am still not sure about mounting the rectifier socket. Does the mounting ring need to be in contact with the chassis? If it does not then the hole is a nice even 1in. diameter. But if the mounting ring must contact the chassis then it is 1.17XXin. that doesn't make sense.

Eh? Didn't quote you at all. I quoted sliberty, who happened to begin his post by agreeing with you, other than that I made no reference to you that I can see.M Fowler wrote:For deburring the holes just use a larger drill bit at slow speed with very slight pressure so it only takes the material away by polishing the material. Ben you miss quoted me darn it.![]()

I did say almost the same thing as you did about cutting off the grommet, though I did not notice you'd said anything about that til after I started writing this post! Great minds think alike, isn't that what the infamous "they" say??

Greg,
When your done with that super deburring tool you will need to PM me to get my address so I can use it.
Now is that tool better than the ole run of the mill Dremel or variant of or were you looking at the tapering tool?
I use so many tools that my pegboard wall is starting to drupe. Files, deburring tools, dremels and my very handy tiny hex bit cordless driver. I am lucky because out in the shop I have everything I need just wish I had some of you talented guys there using the tools with me.

Gary,
That was a nice layout you did. Now I didn't have that layout when I was building my Rocket
From now on I will have to contact you before I start a project. Gary got any advice for chassis layout for my Express Combo 212 build before I start drilling.

Tim,
I had to redo it several times and placed the transformers on the drawing and adjust. Found I had to use printer set up to find the correct setting for that but, once I had it printing actual size it worked for my Rocket. Don't know if it is per "Original" Rocket but, it looked good to me and fits OK.
Mark,
I wouldn't even hazard a guess on a combo.
Have never done one so I would probably have the transformers coming out the top and the tubes sticking out the back.

Watcha need is one of these little wonders, ~$12 at Ace Hardware...Greg wrote:Holes are drilled to Gary's specs...wires go through very nicely. I think grommets are less of an issue with perfectly alligned holes.
Thank you Gary. Are you healing well?
Every time I step into the mancave to work on the Donna Rocket I discover I need a new tool. Time to buy a deburring tool.
And what's wrong with buying more tools?

Ron,
Is that General tool used for trimming nose hairs or smoothing out the amalgam in the rear molars?

Hey I wonder if a potato peeler would work for that?
Or can that work as a potato peeler?

I feel one of those cheesy 70s K-tel ads coming on...
It trims nose hairs!
It smooths dental amalgam!
It peels potatoes!
It slices!
It dices!
etc
LOL

Re: Rocket tranny no room for grommet
you guys kill me...I had used that deburring tool years ago when I build undersea video camara housings and lighting systems...check the link I build all that. Literally...those are my builds.

Anyway the tool works ok but not for a real smooth finish. It just cuts the burr.
